Nature and Scope of work

This is a skilled, professional position involving combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires.

Requires responding to emergency medical calls.

Performing routine operation and maintenance of departmental equipment, apparatus and quarters.

Physical and Environmental Factors

Work to be performed is located both inside and outside in settings such as, but not limited to: a fire station, training room, fire apparatus, fire rescue vehicle, fire scene, or emergency medical scene.

Requirements
Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter for Triana Volunteer Fire Department will potentially expose you to fumes, odors, smoke, gases, chemicals, mechanical mechanisms, toxic substances, radiation, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, moving traffic, electrical hazards, explosions, dangerous animals, extreme heights, unknown elements, life threatening conditions, atmospheres up to 1000 degrees F, irregular/protracted work hours, and extreme weather/temperature conditions.

Will require regular, and at times, sustained performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, crouching, lying, crawling, kneeling, working in restricted and/or confined spaces, climbing, balancing on ladders, working at heights, and frequent to continuous lifting/carrying of objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

Requires the ability to abruptly perform maximum physical exertion without warm-up and sustain such exertion while wearing 45 pounds of protective gear.

Requires physical dexterity during frequent and/or continuous use of hand-eye coordination and manipulative skills using fingers, limbs or body in the safe and/or productive operation of vehicles, equipment, machinery and tools.

Requires the ability to push and pull fire hoses and ladders over rough surfaces, up and down inclines.

Requires the ability to perceive and/or discriminate colors, sounds, odors, and depths.

Requires the ability to verbally communicate, attend to tasks without distractions, reason effectively, use effective judgment, maintain alertness and awareness, perform multiple concurrent tasks, exercise memory, learn, manage stress, operate office equipment, and function as a team member.

Must be open to performing other reasonable duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Age
Requirements
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License

Must have a high school diploma or GED

Must be able to read, write and communicate the English language

Must be able to pass physical and written tests as required

Must have basic computer and office skills

Must be able to pass initial and random drug tests

Must be able to pass a background check

Must be able to Complete FFI/FFII Certification & Emt Basic School.

Must be knowledgeable and capable of completing all necessary records, documentation and equipment maintenance regarding ISO rating requirements.
