Description
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Wildland Fire Crew is seeking volunteers to serve as on-call wildland firefighters. In this position, firefighters will respond to and suppress wildland fires in El Paso County and neighboring jurisdictions. Additionally, we are a national resource and can deploy firefighters across the county during times of need. Furthermore, this department conducts prescribed fires, fire mitigation, and public education and outreach. This department is a great foot in the door to the fire service. We have sent numerous firefighters to Federal Interagency Hotshot Crews, Engine Crews, and Helitack Crews, as well as structure departments. The opportunities with this department are endless for training, qualifications, and experience.

Requirements
We do not require any prior qualifications or experience to join our department. We will provide all the necessary training and equipment to become a fully qualified NWCG Wildland Firefighter. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a clean driving and criminal history. We meet for training on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. We ask that our volunteers attend 2 of the 4 scheduled training per month at a minimum. We do not have a shift requirement or a call response requirement. If you are available, then respond. Ultimate certification and training requirements to come off of probationary status are: S-130, S-190, I-100, IS-700, and L-180. Additionally, all firefighters are required to complete the Arduous Work Capacity Test (Pack Test) and a field day.
