Description
The Harris County Emergency Services District #48 (“HCESD #48” or the “District”) is seeking individuals to serve as Volunteer Firefighters. Volunteers are not required to have past firefighting experience.

Requirements
The Volunteer Firefighter, when available, will be invited to sign-up for one to three (1-3) twelve-hour shifts per week. Volunteers can sign-up for station shifts upon their availability. The Volunteer Firefighter can be engaged in response to fire and accident scenes, public education programs, pre-fire planning, fire station and fire apparatus maintenance. When available, the Volunteer Firefighter may also volunteer to attend Public Relation events, Monday evening trainings, and other opportunities.

Requirements to be eligible to volunteer:
⦁ Possess a valid Class C or greater Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
⦁ Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
⦁ Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
⦁ Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow volunteers, District employees, other agencies, and the general public; serve as a team member.
⦁ Serve under the general supervision of a District officer or officer-in-charge.
⦁ Pass an entrance medical examination provided by the District.
⦁ Pass a drug and/or alcohol test provided by the District.
⦁ Pass a department physical ability test.
⦁ High school diploma or GED.


Application packets can be requested by sending an email to Fire Chief Jeffrey S. Hevey at jhevey@hcesd-48.org or in person at Fire Station #3, 1773 Westgreen Blvd, Katy, Texas 77450. Applications can be submitted to the Fire Chief no more than 30 days after the application was issued. The Department provides two Cadet training classes each year. The first one starts in January and the second class starts in September.
Volunteer applicants shall complete and submit the District Application and Disclosure form to the office of the Fire Chief.
