Department Information:
The Founder and Fire Chief of Regional Fire & Rescue Department is Steven Kerber. The department was established in April 1995 and has completed its 26th year of service in Central Pinal County. Regional Fire has (4) full-time fire positions including the Fire Chief, Captain (A-Shift), Captain (B-Shift), and one administrative employee. Regional Fire & Rescue Department provides Firefighting, Rescue and Basic Technical Rescue Operations, BLS and ALS EMS services, Haz-Mat response, along with the occasional fire prevention and public education opportunities. Regional Fire serves a population of approximately 8,000 to 12,000 residents and serves just under 100 miles of Arizona Highway and Interstate within approx. 96 square miles consisting of our Area of Responsibility (AOR). The Department responded to 701 calls in 2019.
Regional Fire is an ISO Class-5/5Y Fire Department. The Department maintains (2) Type-1 Engines, a Squad (Ford F-750 with 500 Gallons Water/Foam, (also carries our Extrication, Air Bags, Cribbing, SCBA, Low Angle TRT, 120,000 Lumen LED Light Tower) One Type-2 water tender (3500 Gallons) with an Incident Command/Chief’s Response vehicle.

Requirements
Reserves who are not certified, must live locally and be willing to train and eventually certify as a Firefighter. Along with entry level personnel with no certifications, those wiirefighter-2 (FF2) but not EMS certified at any level are a considered non-compensated Volunteers. EMS Certification is highly recommended but not required to participate in a Volunteer status, IF entry level or a Certified Firefighter-2 already.
Certified Reserves who are Firefighter-2 (either IFSAC Accredited DoD, Pro-Board, another State, etc) and EMS Certified at the EMT-Basic, I-EMT or Paramedic Levels are paid hourly. Hourly wage is paid-per-call for the training period on Squad-586 where driver training must be completed to gain shift qualification. Qualification on Squad-586 can be expected to take from 3 months to 6 months, depending upon the individual commitment toward achieving this first goal. Following the 6 month probationary period or once Squad Truck Qualification is obtained, the Certified FF-2/EMT-B can expect $200.00 per 24 hour shift as the second Firefighter, or up to $100.00 per shift as a Third Firefighter when this option is exercised and a Third Firefighter is scheduled. Certified FF2/Medics receive $240.00 per 24 hour shift. The minimal commitment is 48 hours per month whether riding as a third FF Paid-Per-Call or as the scheduled 2nd Shift Firefighter on shift stipend status and at least One Drill or Station Training per month. This is paid from $10.00 to $11.00 per hour and lasts about 4 hours.
