Firefighter/EMR

Carroll Fire Protection District

1811 N Brownfield Rd
Urbana, IL 61802
(217) 367-5065

Description
Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder: We are always looking for new recruits to join our department. Our volunteers pride themselves on an endless dedication to training and service to the community. Being a volunteer firefighter is time consuming, and takes dedication. We require Firefighters to complete the illinois EMR training at a minimum, but encourage higher levels of EMT licensure. Once you submit an application, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. If, after the interview, you are selected to be a recruit, you will be given the rank of Probationary Firefighter, and begin the recruit training process. (If you come to us with prior certifications/licensure, this will make it easier for you to fulfill the probationary requirements, but we have trained MANY volunteers from scratch.)

Our department holds training every Monday night. During the recruit training, new recruits will undergo rigorous exercises that will prepare them to operate safely and effectively on an emergency scene. In addition to fire training, recruits will also receive basic medical training. Once a recruit has mastered the basic firefighting skills, he or she will then be permitted to run emergency calls, for the remainder of their probationary period.

The typical probationary period lasts 1 year. At the end of this period, the department will decide whether or not to promote the Probationary Firefighter to the rank of Firefighter. If an individual is selected for promotion, they will be badged and given a long term position on the fire department.
