Description
As a Northwest Harris Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (Volunteer Fire Medic) You will serve the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance.

You are expected to perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of the Northwest Harris VFD and you will perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education.

The Volunteer Fire Medic normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. You will be expected to perform your duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high
risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases.

As a Volunteer Fire Medic, You will have a greater requirement to attend regularly scheduled training in order to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a firefighter and EMS provider in accordance with state law, county protocols, and standard operating procedures.

The work performance of a Volunteer Fire Medic is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. Any deficiencies are corrected through remedial training.

Requirements
To be state certified as a firefighter, medic in Georgia;
You must be at least 18 years old.
Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination.
Be employed or assigned as a full-time, part-time, or volunteer firefighter at a certified fire department.
You need to hold either a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Show good moral character.
Successfully complete the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council's approved physical agility test.

Complete the Georgia Basic Volunteer Firefighter with Live Burn Class. (95 Training Hours)
Complete the Basic First Responder Class as assigned. (40 Training Hours)
