Description
Established in 1929, the South Houston Volunteer Fire Department has a rich history of community service. Volunteer members contribute hundreds of hours annually to provide fire protection to the citizens of South Houston. Calls for service include vehicle extrication and rescue, vehicle fires, and hazardous materials responses. In addition to fire suppression and ongoing training activities, firefighters assist the Fire Marshal's Office in conducting fire prevention programs in schools, daycares, and other locations.

Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- be at least 18 years of age
- meet residency requirements in effect at time of application
- possess a valid Texas driver's license
- submit a completed application
- satisfactorily complete a physical agility course
- submit to a background examination
- submit to an oral interview conducted by examination board
- complete and pass a pre-employment drug screening as required by the City of South Houston
