Description
Are you someone who wants to make a real difference? Up for a serious challenge? Not scared of a little hard work? Willing to do what it takes? That’s our thing. If it’s yours, too, we can’t wait to meet you.

If you are interested in learning how to help your neighbors in their hour of greatest need, the PVFD offers a unique volunteer service opportunity. Some volunteers focus on scene support roles, like operating fire pumps or controlling traffic. Others go way beyond, earning professional certifications as interior structural firefighters. You can choose how far you go, and all volunteers are valued members of our team. If you come through our doors with a positive attitude, ready to LEARN and WORK, we provide robust training that will give you the confidence to work as part of our team in the most extreme situations, shoulder-to-shoulder with some great people!

Volunteer Category: Firefighter

Requirements
To be a firefighter, you must be over 18 (those between 15 and 17 may apply for Junior Firefighter roles), and you must be willing to make time for the fire department. That means attending weekly trainings and participating in department operations, including emergency response, when available. We require 24 hours of training per year for all active members. We conduct trainings on Tuesday evenings. All training and equipment is provided for free.

Firefighting and rescue operations are physically demanding, and require a high degree of fitness. But if you are not very fit or are physically disabled in some way, don't count yourself out! There are many valuable roles in the fire service that might be a good fit for you. All roles on our department are open to any gender, and we welcome all people in our community at our agency. Come meet us and learn more!

To be a firefighter, you must be trustworthy. Your duties as a firefighter will place you in contact with children, vulnerable adults, and in the homes of strangers. For this reason, applicants will be subject to a criminal background check.

Finally, you must live in the Pawlet, Vermont area to join our fire department. If you do not live in the area, please seek out the fire department in your community.
