Description
Are you or someone you know interested in becoming a Firefighter? The Bethel Fire Department is recruiting qualified individuals to serve our community as Volunteer Firefighters. We provide all training courses, free-of-charge. Typical duties include:

- Use and maintenance of firefighter turnout gear and SCBA;
- Fire suppression;
- Ground and aerial ladder deployment;
- Use and maintenance of chainsaws and other powered equipment;
- Deployment and operation of fire hoses;
- Use and care of various hand tools, including axes and Halligan bars;
- Ensuring readiness by preparing and stocking supplies and equipment on various fire apparatus;
- And MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!

Training includes:

- State of Alaska Firefighter-1 (IFSAC/ProBoard)
- State of Alaska Firefighter-2 (IFSAC/ProBoard)
- BLS Provider CPR
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Level (IFSAC/ProBoard)
- First Aid training

Requirements
Applicants must meeting the following requirements:

- Be at least 18 years old at time of certification
- Must submit a volunteer application, immunization history, DMV driver's history, and a criminal background report
- No felonies or serious misdemeanors
- Must have ability to pass a firefighter physical ability test
- Must attend all training classes and pass all skills examinations prior to certification
- Volunteer members must attend at least 50% of regular firefighter training meetings and commit to two 12-hour duty shifts per month
- Once certified, members will be paid a performance-based monthly stipend.
