If you are looking to assist your neighbors, community and surrounding communities in their time of need, consider becoming a volunteer firefighter.

The Chapin Volunteer Fire Department is looking for individuals to join the department. The department and community depends upon timely and swift response of community residents who selflessly serve their community when the need arises.

Membership will begin as a probationary member which will include training. After successful completion of the probationary period, the member will become a full volunteer firefighter. Probationary and full members are expected to answer the calls received that includes but is not limited to extinguishing fires, vehicle accidents, protecting live and property, safe operation and maintaining fire equipment, apparatus and the firehouse The position requires extensive training in the proper and safe use of apparatus, tools, equipment and performing hazardous tasks under emergency conditions, which may require strenuous exertion under such conditions such as smoke, limited visibility, and cramped surroundings.

It is a rewarding experience that is difficult to match.

Requirements
Be at least 18 years of age
Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
Be able to pass a background check - no felony convictions
Pass a drug test
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Illinois
Not subject to restrictions that would interfere with training and firefighting duties
