Description
Volunteer firefighters provide fire prevention and fire suppression services for the department's primary response area, as well as providing mutual aid support to surrounding departments. Firefighters are expected to engage in regular training, achieve and maintain certification as a Firefighter I (or higher) by the Kentucky Commission on Fire Protection, Personnel, Standards and Education, and serve actively in department activities. In addition to fire prevention and suppression, firefighters are expected to participate in public relations activities, equipment maintenance and station cleanup, fund raising and community service activities. Firefighters provide standby fire suppression and general assistance at motor vehicle crashes, and EMT-certified members may provide assistance to EMS personnel, but our department does not provide EMS or rescue services.

Requirements
Requirements include:
- be 18 years of age or older;
- have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in an educational program leading to a diploma or equivalent;
- have no serious criminal record;
- possess a level of physical fitness adequate to perform strenuous physical tasks;
- no facial hair that interferes with the fit of a respirator (SCBA) mask;
- have a commitment to community service and a strong desire to serve as a firefighter;
- be willing to abide by the policies and regulations of the department.

Prior training or experience is NOT required. Training is available within the department and from state-sponsored fire training schools.
