Description
Powhatan County Fire & Rescue is looking for dedicated personnel to assist the community by becoming Volunteer Firefighters and EMT’s.
Volunteers responds to emergency situations and perform fire suppression and/or emergency medical activities as needed. You participate as a team member; performing work which can include strenuous physical activity, heavy lifting, working from ladders, and wearing self- contained breathing apparatus. Volunteers operate diverse equipment such as hoses, self-contained breathing apparatus, a variety of hand tools and power equipment, saws, ladders, fire extinguishers, ventilation equipment, radios, rescue and extrication equipment, and work with specialized medical equipment such a defibrillators and Advanced Life Support medications.

Requirements
Ages 12-16 Junior Emergency Technician (JET), 16-18 Active Junior member, 18+ senior member. Must complete criminal history check per Virginia Code §32.1-111.5.
While each volunteer station handles duty requirements differently, expect to devote a minimum of 20 hours per month to staffing/training, plus on-call home response when needed.
Certification as Emergency Medical Technician or NFPA Fire fighter Level I, within first year of membership. (training provided)
