Description
The Fortuna Fire Protection District located in Humboldt County currently has positions open for Resident Volunteer Firefighters. The Resident Volunteer Firefighter Program is intended to provide real life experience and opportunity in a firehouse setting to individuals pursuing a career in the Medical Field or Public Safety.

Position Description:
The Resident Volunteer Firefighter Program provides an opportunity for fire service training and incident response experience to qualified individuals that are seeking a career in the Medical and Public Safety field and are willing to serve as a volunteer firefighter for the Fortuna Fire Protection District. The Resident Volunteer Firefighter will be provided no-cost living facilities (meals not included) in exchange for providing daily staffing of the fire station and apparatus while serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Fire District. This is a non-stipend/non-reimbursable program.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possess a valid California driver’s license and have a clean driving history.
• Pass a background check and physical exam as per department standard.
• In attendance or currently enrolled in college courses (minimum of 9 credits) pertaining to the Medical Field or Public Safety.

Length of Residency Requirements:
Participation in the Resident Volunteer Firefighter Program will be a minimum of 6 months and maximum of 24 months. Approval of additional participation will be at the discretion of the Fire Chief or his/her designated appointee.
