Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Performs a variety of firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and performing fire containment, extinguishment and overhaul tasks.
Performs a variety of emergency service activities including administering first aid and providing other assistance as required.

Participates in training, attends classes in firefighting, emergency service, hazardous materials, and related subjects.

Operates radios and other communications equipment.

Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and Local laws and Ordinances.

Assists in the general maintenance of fire equipment, apparatus and facilities.

Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment.

Assists officers in developing plans for special assignments such as emergency preparedness, hazardous communications, training programs, firefighting, hazardous materials and emergency activities.

Performs salvage operations.

Other duties as required.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Attends training and meetings as required or scheduled.

TRAINING
a. As required by MIOSHA Part 74 Rule 7411, and as specified by the department.
b. Participation in mandated training.
c. Firefighter Level I (Level II is preferred).

Requirements
An equivalent combination of education and experience listed below may be considered.
a. Must be 18 years of age and have High School diploma or GED equivalent.
b. Must possess, or be able to obtain by the time of hire, a valid State of Michigan driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
c. U.S. Citizen.
d. Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
e. Ability to meet departmental physical standards.
f. Must be insurable under the guidelines established by the City’s Liability Insurance Carrier.
g. Successful completion of the training identified below.
h. Must have an independent reliable source of transportation to the fire station.
i. Must be able to work when called, in a fit, mental and physical condition in order to perform job duties and assigned tasks. This includes
the willingness and ability to participate in a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of annual training and development activities.
j. Must have a functioning telephone.
k. Must be able to work well and to perform work efficiently and productively under pressure, which may be caused by having to face critical and unexpected situations.
