Description
As a Northwest Harris Volunteer Firefighter you will serve the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance.

You will be expected to perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of the Northwest Harris VFD and you will perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education.

Here at Northwest Harris VFD our Volunteer Firefighters normally work under the supervision of a company officer and you will be expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. You will also be expected to perform your duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases.

As a Northwest Harris Volunteer FF you will be required to attend 4, 2 hour, regularly scheduled training classes in order to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a Firefighter and First Responder EMS provider in accordance with state law, county protocols, and standard operating procedures.

The work performance of all Volunteer firefighters is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team.

Requirements
As a Basic Volunteer Firefighter, You will attend the Basic Volunteer Firefighter with Live Fire course( 95 training hours) your first year. This course meets the current mandatory training for volunteer firefighters who will be serving in a response and mitigation capacity as required by Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council.

To be state certified as a firefighter in Georgia;
You must be at least 18 years old.
Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination.
Be employed or assigned as a full-time, part-time, or volunteer firefighter at a certified fire department.
You need to hold either a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Show good moral character.
Successfully complete the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council's approved physical agility test.
