Description
A Support Focused Firefighter may perform a wide variety of essential, but non-emergent tasks that allow the department to function and operate smoothly. These tasks may also enhance the fire prevention, education, and overall mission of the department. These tasks may include:
vehicle inspection and maintenance
equipment inventory, testing, cleaning, and inspection
data entry and record review
fire prevention education for children and/or adults
smoke detector installation and inspection
fire alarm/suppression system reviews and documentation
development plans reviews

The above list is not comprehensive. Where an individual's desire and ability intersect a need of the department, efforts will be made by department leadership to utilize the individual in that role. Depending upon the task involved, a Support Focused Firefighter may take work direction from department officers or administrative staff.

Requirements
Requirements will vary depending upon the tasks assigned. An amount of initial training will be necessary for most tasks to ensure they are carried out safely and correctly. This training will be provided by the responsible officer or department staff member providing work instruction for the task. Attendance at regular department training is encouraged for at least the beginning portion of the training to be made aware of department announcements and activities, as well as to interface with the department as a whole. The training topic or activity occurring will determine whether the Support Focused Firefighter attends the duration of the training. A successful background investigation may be required to participate in certain tasks. An average of 5-10 hours per month should be planned to successfully fulfill this position.

1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Reside within the Amsterdam Rural Fire District or within a geographic area so as to allow you to respond to station within 10 minutes, obeying all traffic laws.
3. Must have a valid Montana drivers license of the class required by state law.
4. Satisfactorily complete the recruit training program and CPR course.
5. Agrees to attend a designated minimum amount of department approved training each year
6. Agrees to keep their CPR certification training current
7. Agrees to fulfill the job requirements of the volunteer firefighter job description
8. Agrees to abide by all other policies, rules and regulations, S.O.P.’s as set forth by the Amsterdam Volunteer Rural Fire Department
