Description
An Offensive Focused Firefighter responds to both emergent and non-emergent calls for assistance made by the public. These may include Fire, Rescue, HazMat, Natural Disaster and other incidents. EMS responses are also available as support for medical incidents. In addition to all the tasks for the Defensive Focused Firefighter, the Offensive Focused Firefighter will perform tasks that may require moderate to heavy physical exertion. These tasks may include the extended wear of a 30 lb. SCBA pack, operation of heavy tools such as chainsaws and hydraulic cutting or spreading tools, and extended walking, lifting, tool use, or other activities. Ladder use is common and climbing ground ladders up to 30 feet and ladder apparatus up to 100 feet is a possibility. Some work also involves confined spaces and/or limited to no visibility.
Work direction is provided by department officers, incident commanders, more qualified staff (i.e. crew leaders), and state and local directives.

Requirements
Offensive Focused Firefighters will be tasked to approach and enter burning structures and vehicles to perform rescue and fire suppression activities. Additional hazardous activities include HazMat operations, entrapment rescue, and wild fire attack. These activities occur at low frequency, but require the member to retain a high level of proficiency by means of regular drills and training. Those fulfilling this role should have and maintain a level of physical fitness necessary to perform these tasks.
The Offensive Focused Firefighter is required to first complete the trainings necessary to fulfill the Defensive Focused Firefighter role. Previous fire service experience will be considered with training requirements. Officer approval and a successful background investigation is required before an individual may respond to calls for service and be issued a pager. As the member operates in the Defensive Focused Firefighter role, certain additional training will be provided, and the member will be required to demonstrate proficiencies in certain offensive firefighting tactics. When these trainings have been completed and proficiencies demonstrated, the department officers will review the individual's performance and approve the individual for the Offensive role.
An average of 10-15 hours per month should be planned during the initial training phase and 10-20 hours per month subsequent to pager issue to successfully fulfill this position.
1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Reside within the Amsterdam Rural Fire District or within a geographic area so as to allow you to respond to station within 10 minutes, obeying all traffic laws.
3. Must have a valid Montana drivers license of the class required by state law.
4. Satisfactorily complete the recruit training program and CPR course.
5. Agrees to attend a minimum of 30 hrs of department approved training each year
6. Agrees to keep their CPR certification training current
7. Agrees to respond to at least 20% of emergency calls
8. Agrees to fulfill the job requirements of the volunteer firefighter job description
9. Agrees to abide by all other policies, rules and regulations, S.O.P.’s as set forth by the Amsterdam Volunteer Rural Fire Department
