When you join the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, you become part of a team dedicated to tackling the life-threatening emergencies and accidents faced by the citizens and visitors of Spotsylvania County. You will work in a fast-paced environment where every decision you make becomes important.
As a member of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, you will learn new skills and make some of the best friends of your life. You will also feel the thrill of staring danger in the eye and not blinking, while you help your neighbor.
Volunteers receive free training, uniforms, and gear. They get a personal property tax exemption, credit union membership, free access to high-speed Internet, fitness facilities, and more.

Requirements
We appreciate your interest in the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department. We always need men and women who are willing to be trained to become volunteer firefighters and administrative assistance. No matter your background or experience, SVFD likely has a volunteer role for you.
We provide emergency response service at:
- Fire Company 1, Spotsylvania Courthouse
- Fire Company 4, Four Mile Fork
- Fire Company 8, Thornburg
Volunteers serve a minimum of 48 hours per month.
To learn more about volunteer opportunities at any of our stations, please plan to attend our next monthly Volunteer Recruitment Open House on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. The open house will be held at Fire Company #1 at Spotsylvania Courthouse or schedule a walk-through at any of our companies.
