All Active Firefighters must attend at least 12 regularly scheduled or special drills (Training) during the year. OSHA training drills are mandatory and must be made up if missed. Each session lasts approximately 3 hours. Regular drills are scheduled on every Monday except holidays and meeting nights(First Monday evening of the month). Extra training sessions are scheduled as needed. Different nights can be accommodated for a member.

Junior Firefighter (Age 16-18)

The Ballston Spa Fire Department Junior Firefighter Program provides young men and women, ages 16 and 17, the opportunity to learn about the skill of firefighting. These firefighters are mentored by adult advisers from the ranks of the Ballston Spa Fire Department. They drill on Wednesday nights in the same manner as those over 18. They are provided with turnout gear, attend NYS training classes, respond to calls, and help with events in and around the firehouses. Safety comes first, and there are some things Junior Firefighters are not allowed to do until they are 18.
