Description
Nature of Work:
Under general supervision performs firefighting activities, including fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, and actively engages in the maintenance of station, apparatus and equipment.

Duties:
The following duties are not inclusive of all duties and the Fire Fighter/ EMT may be responsible for performing other related duties as required:

 Responds to emergency requests for assistance concerning fire suppression, hazardous materials, firs aid and basic life support.
 Administers first aid or basic life support to injured persons as needed.
 Operates radio communication equipment.
 Fights fires, lays and connects hose lines and nozzles, and operates various firefighting equipment and machinery.
 Participates in fire training activities, including fire prevention, fire-fighting tactics, disaster response, first aid, and other related areas.
 Participates in emergency medical training required for Washington State EMT certification as applicable.
 Performs routine building and grounds maintenance and custodial work at the fire station as required.
 Completes necessary forms and records in response to FIRE and EMS calls.
 Assists in the vehicle, station, equipment and supply cleaning after FIRE or EMS Calls.
 Assist in the re-stocking of medical supplies after medicals calls. Assist in the clean-up of all rigs and/ or equipment after a call.
 Assist in the monitoring of vehicles to ensure that they are in proper working order. Any necessary maintenance needs should be reported to any officer immediately.
 Operates and drives emergency vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
 Performs related work as outlined in the Fire Department Standard Operating Procedures.
 Represent the Fire Department in an honorable fashion.

Requirements
Physical Limitations:
 Requires employees to respond and actively participate in fire suppression activities, including climbing, lifting heavy objects, pulling, stooping, and binding. The job involves strenuous physical exertion and endurance regardless of the capacity in which the firefighter or EMT serves.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
 Modern methods, principles, techniques, and practices applied to firefighting, fire prevention, fire safety inspection, natural or man-made disasters, and related fields.
 Fire suppression and prevention principles and practices.
 Firefighting equipment, tools and machinery, including trucks, engines, ladders, hoses, extrication equipment, and other heavy-duty fire fighting apparatus.
 State and local traffic laws and ordinances involving emergency vehicle operation.
 Thorough knowledge of Clallam County medical program protocols and medical procedures – if applicable.
 Thorough knowledge of emergency medical principles, practices and procedures.
 Knowledge of Emergency Medical supplies and equipment including but not limited to: defibrillator, suction, gurney, splints, IV, oxygen administration, and rescue equipment.
 FCC radio communications rules and regulations.
 Rules and regulations of the county and the standard operating procedures of the Clallam County Fire District # 5
 Knowledge and operation of the Incident Command System.

Ability to:
 Operate assigned equipment required to perform certain tasks.
 Memorize the geography, street locations, locations of hydrants, buildings, and routes in the district, as well as individual characteristics of buildings, including construction, hazards, and built-in protective devices.
 Read and interrupt maps, plans, and diagrams.
 Rapidly analyze dangerous situations and take reasonable course of action, reacting quickly and calmly; and to recall facts and conditions observed while under severe physical and emotional stress.
 Deal with the public courteously and effective.
 Maintain harmonious working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and other Fire Department personnel.
 Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
