Description
Minooka Fire District is seeking 15 - 18 year old students to serve in its Fire cadet program. Fire cadets are given an excellent opportunity to experience the life of a firefighter. Cadets will participate in training activities along side volunteer and career firefighters.
Fire Cadets must be dedicated to the program; however, school work and grades cannot suffer. Dedicated fire cadets will be permitted to participate in ride-along programs on active operating fire apparatus; participate in station activities to see what the daily life of a firefighter consist of, assist with public education programs, and community events. While Fire Cadets are primarily at the station providing support activities there will be occasions during larger scale incidents where fire cadets are called upon to report to the incident scene to assist with command activities, rehabilitation of firefighters, and logistical assistance.
Fire cadets will participate in firefighter training, including use of self contained breathing apparatus, ladders, apparatus operations, rescue equipment such as vehicle extrication, and live fire training evolution under highly controlled instructional environments.

Requirements
Minimum of 15 years of age - 18 (at age 18 you can become a recruit volunteer firefighter)
Good physical and mental condition (verified by school or sport physical), subject to medical evaluation;
Never convicted of a felony or some misdemeanors;
No significant school disciplinary actions;
Written recommendation from a high school teacher;
Minimum of "C" average that must be maintain throughout cadet membership;
Written permission from parents;
Commitment to 2 - 3 hours of training per week (average)
